TheMothership.net domain was registered in 1998. It was originally an information and schedule site for a Pacific Northwest concert venue of the same name. The venue enjoyed two years of successful shows and events, and during that time its systems designer & web master, Patrick Callahan, began providing web services to musicians and other individuals involved in the music industry. When the venue was shut down in 1999 due to a change of ownership, the web services division continued to flourish as an independent business and eventually expanded into the multi-faceted organization that exists today. Since the venue was a much-loved landmark in the Seattle/Tacoma music scene, parts of the original website (in all it's hideous "MS FrontPage v1.0" glory) have been preserved for historical reference and as a reminder of our humble beginnings.
Today, TheMothership.net is a complete web services provider and a network of subcontractors that caters to musicians & other entertainers, event promoters & support contractors, indie record labels, and people in every related facet of the music & entertainment industries. Our servers are housed in our own Pacific Northwest data center and we provide our customers with some of the fastest, most reliable bandwidth in the world. Why do you need a web services site geared toward a specific industry? Well, you don't really. Any qualified provider can sell you a domain name and host your website just like any qualified mechanic can work on a classic Corvette or new BMW, but wouldn't it make more sense to trust those premium vehicles to a mechanic who specializes in them? Maybe even OWNS one? Wouldn't they know more about it and be more likely to take a special interest in it? Now, does it make any less sense to seek out the same level of expertise when it comes to your online presence?
